SHAKESPEARE BOOKSHOP PARIS
Image Number 71
The Shakespeare bookstore has been a fixture of the love affair between literature and the left bank since 1919. It has doubled as a library, publisher and boarding house for aspiring writers and was featured in Ernest Hemingway's memoir, A Moveable Feast. The ornate drinking fountain was erected in the 19th century to service the area's poor. Inside, there's an extensive stock of second-hand books.
